It is not enough that you, as a Swedish exporter/ importer, are prepared. Your customers and suppliers may be some of the 245,000 UK companies that trade with the EU but lack 3rd country experience. Make sure your partners have the necessary permits, skills, routines and documentation. And especially that both have secured Customs declaration capacity. Do not trust that your carrier will solve the customs handling for you, without the right preparation on both sides and an agreement with customs capacity assurance, you risk your UK-EU flows.

– In Sweden, the number of customs clearances after Brexit is estimated to increase by 14-20 %, 7.2 million declarations in 2017 are estimated to become 8,2-8,6 million for in many cases poorly prepared companies. Customs competence is a limited asset, so the number of incorrect declarations will increase and with them your risks. The CEO of the exporting- and importing companies are responsible regardless of who submits the information to the Swedish Customs for you. It is not just additional fees that are at risk, it can be both permits, daily fines and imprisonment.

– In the UK, a 5-6 doubling is expected. So with 50 million declarations today and a new Customs Trade System being rolled out dimensioned for 100 million (CTS are replacing Chief). HMRC estimates to handle 250-300 million declarations after Brexit, 50% of UK trade is done today with the EU .
